Privacy Policy

BetterCart is operated by Generative AI Solutions Inc. You can reach us at hello@bettercart.ai. The backend that processes requests runs on Railway and routes calls to a third-party AI provider.

Data the extension reads from your browser

When you open the side panel on an Instacart page, the extension reads:

• Items in your active cart (name, quantity, price), read from the DOM and Instacart's GraphQL API within your active session, scoped to the *.instacart.com domain.
• The ZIP code and zone configured in your Instacart account.
• Retailers available for that zone.
• Cart totals (subtotal, delivery, promotions).
• Your Google account email, obtained from Chrome's identity API. We use it to associate your conversations with your account so you get a consistent experience across sessions.

The extension does not read your name, mailing address, payment methods, or Instacart purchase history.

Data you submit

• The text messages you type into the side panel.

Data the extension sends to our backend

When you interact with the agent, the following is sent to our backend:

• Your text messages.
• Your Google account email, used as your account identifier.
• The cart and retailer data described above, only when the agent needs them to answer your query.
• Results of the searches the agent runs against other retailers (via Instacart).
• A conversation ID that ties your messages together within a session.

The data is used to:

• Generate the agent's responses in real time.
• Compare your cart against nearby retailers and propose alternatives.
• Maintain your conversation history so you can resume sessions.
• Debug, monitor, and improve the product.

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not build profiles for marketing purposes.

• Conversations and messages: stored in our database (Supabase) tied to your email. We retain them indefinitely; we do not delete them automatically. You can request deletion at any time (see Section 6).
• In your browser: the extension does not use chrome.storage or localStorage for personal data.
• Operational logs: our hosting provider (Railway) may keep standard technical metadata (IP, timestamp, HTTP status) for up to 30 days for operational and debugging purposes. These logs do not include the content of your messages.

To function, BetterCart transmits your messages and cart data to:

• A third-party AI provider — processes the messages to generate answers.
• Supabase — stores your conversations and messages on our behalf. Subject to Supabase's privacy policy.
• Railway — provides backend hosting. Subject to Railway's privacy policy.
• LangSmith (LangChain) — optionally, when enabled, for tracing conversations for debugging. When active, the conversation text is also sent to LangSmith. Subject to LangChain's privacy policy.
• Instacart — the extension queries Instacart's API using your existing session (only when you open the extension on instacart.com). We do not send Instacart any additional data.

We do not sell or share data with advertisers, brokers, or tracking networks.

You can request:

• A copy of the data we hold associated with your email.
• Deletion of your conversations and account.

To exercise either right, email hello@bettercart.ai from the address tied to your account. We will action the request within 30 days.

If you simply uninstall the extension from chrome://extensions, no new data will be sent, but existing data on the backend will remain until you request deletion.

BetterCart is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.

If we update this policy, we will change the date at the top of the document and, for material changes, announce them in the extension's Chrome Web Store description.
